Stuart Cunningham - Creative Economy, Question 5:

How does a creative economy approach fit in with economic transformation for NZ?

Duration: 1:13

Well I’ve always been very interested in the NZ policy environment because the growth and innovation framework which has been in place in NZ for the last few years ahs always included the creative sector, the contribution that the creative sector can make to NZ’s innovation economy.

Along with the usual suspects of biotechnology and information technology in these policies has been the contribution of the screen industries, the massive contribution that high end screen production and ancillary benefits has made and can make to the NZ economy. And also design, design has an embedded factor, and added value factor if you like into NZ manufacturing, such that a better branded, and better packaged manufacturing niche export sector can be developed.

So these policy settings put NZ from my point of view at the front of world innovation policies because it doesn’t programmatically exclude the creative sector as most innovation policies do.
